On October 21, the Asian Women's Leadership University (AWLU) Project convened a roundtable discussion, hosted by SRI, with higher education and Asia experts to discuss the viability and transformative potential of a new women’s liberal arts university in Asia. This project asserts that a liberal arts education which focuses on cultivating critical thinking, leadership and entrepreneurship can contribute to higher education transformation, regional development, innovation, and women’s empowerment in Asia. The goal of the Asian Women’s Leadership University Project is to establish by September 2015 a top level liberal arts women’s university for promising women in Asia. Born in the Fall of 2010, and driven by the vision, passion and support of a group of global leaders in business, government and academia, AWLU is advancing towards its plan of establishing its campus in Malaysia. AWLU will feature the best educational practices from East and West with a vibrant residential learning community in which promising women from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds can achieve their full intellectual and personal potential. AWLU will enable women to become effective professionals, inspiring leaders, and service-oriented citizens. For more information, please visit www.awluproject.org.
