Recent studies by SRI and a local consulting group were part of a "draft white paper" on the Monterey County Labor Force.
SRI is working with the Economic Development Committee of the Board of Supervisors for Monterey County, California to identify strategic economic opportunities that will form the basis for a new economic vision for the county. SRI completed the first phase of the project, which involved research and review of economic and industry data, and discussions with approximately 180 stakeholders, including leaders in the agriculture, tourism, marine research, academic and small business sectors. The first phase was concluded with a comprehensive SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis, an asset inventory and assessment, and the identification of a set of initial economic opportunities for further evaluation. SRI's Jeff Alexander presented these findings to the Board of Supervisors and other stakeholders in Monterey County at the end of October 2011. In the second phase, SRI is supporting the Committee in developing a process for selecting and prioritizing those opportunities, and overseeing the drafting of implementation plans to enable the county to work with its municipal, academic, and corporate partners to move forward in realizing those opportunities.
